The Director-General of the National Orientation Agency (NOA), Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, has called on Nigerians to embrace love, tolerance, and unity as the nation celebrates Easter.
He urged citizens to reflect the values of the season in their daily interactions, regardless of differences in religion, ethnicity, or political affiliation.
This was disclosed in a statement issued by the Deputy Director, Communications and Media, Paul Odenyi.
Odenyi said the NOA boss described Easter as a season of sacrifice, reconciliation, and renewed hope.
According to him, Issa-Onilu stressed the need for Nigerians to rise above divisions and work towards national unity.
He noted that the country is currently at a critical point in its history.
The NOA DG said Nigeria’s strength lies in its diversity and the collective will of its people.
He, however, warned that terrorists and criminal elements remain a major threat to national unity.
According to him, such groups are bent on destabilising the country.
Issa-Onilu cited recent bomb attacks in Maiduguri and violence in Jos as evidence of the threat.
He assured Nigerians that the government is committed to tackling insecurity across the country.
Odenyi said the DG called on Christians and Muslims to stand united against terrorism.
He stressed that terrorists are common enemies who must not be allowed to divide the nation.
Issa-Onilu also urged religious leaders and community stakeholders to promote peace and tolerance.
He called on the media and civil society to counter hate speech and divisive narratives.
He concluded by wishing Christians a peaceful Easter celebration
