‎Police operatives in Edo state have arrested one Enabulele Sampson, 64, who reportedly acted as surety for a suspected bigamist.

‎Sampson was reportedly taken into custody for failing to honour bail conditions and produce the bigamy suspect identified as Ajayi Patrick.
‎Spokesman for the Edo state police command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, stated this in a statement Wednesday and added that the surety would be arraigned in court to show cause why the bail bond should not be forfeited.
‎Eno stated   that the arrest followed Mr. Sampson’s failure to comply with directives given after Mr. Patrick was granted bail was in line with standard police procedure.
‎She said investigations have revealed that the suspect has fled the country to Canada in an attempt to evade law enforcement, prompting the command to contact INTERPOL for assistance in apprehending him.
The incident, according to her, stems from a complaint received on March 12, 2026, alleging that Mr. Patrick was attempting to register a marriage at the Federal Marriage Registry on March 14, 2026, despite having an existing marital union.
‎Eno said upon receiving the complaint at Aideyan Police Division,  operatives were promptly deployed to the venue.
‎”The complainant, Igho Joy of Upper Mission Extension, was requested to provide supporting documents, including a marriage certificate, to substantiate the claim of bigamy,” she added.
