Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu state Wednesday said the state’s internally generated revenue grew by 450 percent in two years.
He stated that the growth was not through burdensome taxes, but by plugging leakages, embracing digital systems and improving efficiency.
Mbah stated this on the occasion of the presentation ceremony of the ‘2025 Best Southeast Governor Award’ to him by the Hall of Igbo Achievers Foundation (HIAF)/Igbo Books of Records held in Enugu.
Mbah, who was represented by Professor Benedette Okolie, said the development enabled the state to commit over 80% of the budget to capital expenditure, thereby turning Enugu into one of the largest construction sites in the country.
Mbah added that the state has constructed and rehabilitated hundreds of kilometres of roads in urban, rural, and intercity.
The effort, he said, is opening up communities, boosting commerce, and improving the quality of life for the people.
He further hinted that Modern transport terminals have risen at Holy Ghost, Abakpa, and Garriki, while their CNG mass transit programme and the expansion of Enugu Air are redefining mobility and connectivity across the South-east and beyond.
In education, Mbah averred that the state is building Smart Green Schools in all 260 electoral wards of the state while technology-driven institutions that will equip their children with 21st-century skills and prepare them to compete globally are being put in place.
