… Seeks police action over impersonation claim

A Senior Special Assistant to the Ogun State Governor on Housing, Oluwatobi Doregos, has disowned a viral social media post that allegedly circulated a list of senatorial candidates for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun State, insisting that the publication was false and not authorised by him.

The controversial post had purportedly congratulated  deputy governor of the state, Engr. Noimot Salako-Oyedele, Governor Dapo Abiodun, and former governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun, as senatorial candidates for Ogun West, Ogun East and  Ogun Central respectively.

The message, which spread widely across social media platforms, triggered political tension within the state, especially as the APC has yet to formally announce its consensus candidates for the forthcoming elections.

The development was also viewed by stakeholders as misleading and capable of causing embarrassment within government and party ranks.

Reacting to the development on Saturday in a statement made available to PLATFORM TIMES, Doregos firmly denied any involvement in the publication, stating that he neither authored nor approved the message being circulated in his name.

He alleged that the post was the handiwork of one Idriss Fayemi, whom he accused of impersonating him to spread false information.

“I never issued any directive to anyone to make any post about senatorial candidates or any political issue whatsoever. Our party has a proper process, and as someone within government, I am too aware of procedures to engage in such baseless claims,” he said.

Doregos described the publication as “unfortunate and a figment of the sponsor’s imagination,” warning members of the public to disregard it entirely.

He added that the circulation of such misleading content could destabilise political harmony in the state and misinform party supporters.

Meanwhile, the governor’s aide has taken legal steps against the alleged impersonator.

PLATFORM TIMES reports that Doregoes through his counsel, Ijeoma S. Ani-Onyekuru, has filed a petition on Friday at the Police Area Command in Abeokuta, accusing Fayemi of impersonation, malicious representation, and conduct allegedly punishable under cybercrime laws.

Doregos reiterated his commitment to his official duties, stressing that he would not engage in any act capable of undermining the government or creating unnecessary political tension in Ogun State.
