Palpable fear has griped residents in the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Abuja and Niger State following a reported plan by Boko Haram and the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP fighters to attack government facilities.
Local and international reports indicate that the planned targets include the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Kuje prison and a military detention center in neighbouring Niger state.
According to security sources, the planned attacks could be aimed at freeing insurgents, who have been detained in correctional centers.
A source from the Nigerian Customs confirmed the viral memo to DAILY POST but failed to give details of the security alert.
He, however, said that “it was an internal memo and not for the general public”.
DAILY POST reports that there has been security concerns in the nation’s capital with several reports of planned attack.
However, the Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, Ahmed Muhammed Sanusi told journalists on Wednesday that the city is safe.
