A fresh political storm is brewing within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gombe state, as the party’s youth wing has issued a 48-hour ultimatum to former governorship candidate Hon. Nafiu Bala.
The youth are demanding that he retract recent statements and formally accept what they described as his resignation from the party.
The ultimatum, delivered by the ADC Youth Network, signals a deepening leadership crisis within the opposition party ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a strongly worded statement released Monday, the convener of the group, Abubakar Galafi, accused Bala of undermining the party’s unity and democratic principles through what he termed an internal hijack of democracy.
“Today, we speak with outrage and clear conviction on behalf of the youth and grassroots members of ADC who refuse to be silent while democracy is being hijacked from within,” Galafi stated.
He said the situation had escalated beyond internal disagreements, alleging that Bala’s actions amounted to “a deliberate assault” on the party’s core values.
He said Bala had disregarded legal pronouncements and party procedures, choosing instead to align with forces allegedly working against the stability of the party.
“Despite multiple legal pronouncements and party procedures, Mr Bala has willingly aligned himself with forces seeking to sabotage the credibility and unity of our party,” he said.
Galafi further criticised Bala’s refusal to acknowledge his alleged resignation, describing it as a desperate attempt to hold power.
