Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State has been screened and cleared by the All Progressives Congress (APC) ahead of the party’s May 21 governorship primary election.

Fubara was cleared by the APC screening committee at the Plateau Governors Lodge on Saturday after the panel verified his credentials and confirmed his eligibility to participate in the primary.

The Rivers governor was reportedly among 17 serving governors screened by the committee as preparations intensify for the 2027 electoral cycle.

The development comes amid heightened political tension in Rivers State, following the long-running rift between Fubara and the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.

Wike had earlier vowed to frustrate Fubara’s re-election ambition, setting the stage for what observers believe could become one of the fiercest governorship contests in the country.

Meanwhile, Kingsley Chinda, widely regarded as a loyalist of Wike, has also been screened and cleared by the APC to participate in the forthcoming governorship primary.

The emerging lineup signals an intense battle for political control in Rivers State ahead of the election.
