A group, the Watchdog Diplomats has expressed  support for President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, while cautioning against appointing individuals deemed medically unfit for public office.

In a statement signed by its National Coordinator, George Pius, and made available to journalists in Abuja, the group described the administration’s policy direction as a “visionary blueprint” capable of reviving Nigeria’s economy and restoring national pride.

The group said Tinubu’s commitment to economic reforms, security and infrastructure development had inspired confidence among Nigerians, noting that the Renewed Hope Agenda remained a critical pathway to sustainable development.

It added that the agenda deserved continued implementation with transparency, inclusiveness and resilience to ensure equitable benefits across all regions.

However, the group urged the President to exercise caution in appointing officials, stressing that public office holders must possess not only competence and experience but also sound medical and physical fitness.

The statement raised concerns over the possible appointment of an engineer, Adokiye Tombomieye, citing alleged health challenges that could affect his performance in office.

According to the group, “the role of a public servant, particularly in a critical sector like the Niger Delta, requires immense stamina, clarity of thought and physical resilience.”

It warned that appointing individuals with health limitations could undermine governance efficiency and erode public trust.

The Watchdog Diplomats further advised the President to consider appointing “healthy, competent and visionary” individuals from the Niger Delta who can effectively contribute to national development.

The group reaffirmed its confidence in Tinubu’s leadership, expressing hope that the administration would deliver the desired transformation for the country.
