A civic group, Oyo Defender, has called for the resolution of public allegations against a former Oyo State Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning before he joins the governorship race.
In a press statement signed by its Secretary, Adedosu Ifaponle, the group said it is concerned over the governorship bid of a former Commissioner for Finance, Budget and Planning in the administration of late Oyo state governor, Abiola Ajimobi, in the forthcoming 2027 Oyo state governorship election over his ongoing probe by EFCC.
Ifaponle said the state needs steady leadership and demands credible, transparent, and people-focused leadership opining that individuals facing allegations of financial impropriety should be cleared before being considered for the highest office in the state.
The statement referenced public reports linking the ex-commissioner to an alleged ₦30 billion financial matter involving the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
While acknowledging “the principle of presumption of innocence,” the group maintained that allegations cannot be ignored or dismissed without clear and transparent resolution.
“Leadership, especially at the level of governor, requires not only competence but unquestionable integrity and public trust,” the statement read.
“The management of state resources is a sacred duty, and any aspirant seeking such responsibility must be beyond reproach in both record and reputation”, it says.
The group therefore, called on relevant anti-corruption agencies to ensure that all pending allegations are thoroughly investigated and openly addressed before the upcoming elections.
