
Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly ambushed a bus belonging to GUO Transport along the Benin–Ore axis of Lagos express road, killing the driver and abducting an unspecified number of passengers.
Blueprint.ng gathered that the commercial bus was travelling from Lagos towards the eastern part of the country on Sunday when it came under heavy gunfire, forcing it to a halt.
The driver was reportedly shot dead on the spot, while the gunmen whisked the passengers into the surrounding bush.
A viral video circulating online captured the aftermath of the incident, with a narrator alleging that the attackers opened fire on the vehicle before dragging passengers away.
The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Edo state command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the development, adding that a manhunt has been launched for the suspects.
She noted that the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Iguobazuwa Police Division.
Eno added, “The Commissioner of Police has directed adjoining divisions to join in the bush combing efforts to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators.”
The PPRO assured that operations are also ongoing improve safety along the highway.
