‎Gunmen Kill driver, abduct passengers on Benin–Lagos highway

‎Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have reportedly ambushed a bus belonging to GUO Transport along the Benin–Ore axis of Lagos express road, killing the driver and abducting an unspecified number of passengers.

‎Blueprint.ng gathered that the commercial bus was travelling from Lagos towards the eastern part of the country on Sunday when it came under heavy gunfire, forcing it to a halt.

The driver was reportedly shot dead on the spot, while the gunmen whisked the passengers into the surrounding bush.

‎A viral video circulating online captured the aftermath of the incident, with a narrator alleging that the attackers opened fire on the vehicle before dragging passengers away.

‎The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Edo state command, ASP Eno Ikoedem, confirmed the development, adding that a manhunt has been launched for the suspects.

‎She noted that the incident occurred within the jurisdiction of the Iguobazuwa Police Division.

‎Eno added, “The Commissioner of Police has directed adjoining divisions to join in the bush combing efforts to rescue the victims and arrest the perpetrators.”

‎The PPRO assured that operations are also ongoing improve safety along the highway.
