A High Court sitting in Calabar has sentenced a 46-year-old man, Imeh Sunday, to life imprisonment for raping his daughter.

NOP NIGERIA reports that the judgment was delivered on Wednesday by Family Court 2 sitting in Calabar, Cross River State, presided over by Justice Blessing Egwu.

Justice Egwu handed down the maximum sentence after what the court described as overwhelming evidence presented by the prosecution.

The case was prosecuted with the support of the Basic Rights Counsel Initiative (BRCI), a non-governmental organisation focused on protecting the rights of children and indigent women.

Speaking shortly after the judgment, Principal Counsel of BRCI, James Ibor (Esq.), said the conviction was part of ongoing efforts to secure justice for survivors of sexual violence in the state.
