Leader of pan-Yoruba socio-political group, Afenifere, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, said he hopes to be remembered for his sincere service to the society.

Fasoranti made this known while speaking with the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, at his residence in Akure.

He added that he should be remembered as a man who gave his all in leadership and lived a clean life.

According to him, these principles have sustained him over the years.

“I served my society sincerely, gave my all in leadership and lived a clean life; that has sustained me,” he said.

The nonagenarian, however, urged future generations of Nigerians to be selfless and to dedicate themselves to serving their communities.

“The future generations of Nigerians should be selfless and strive to serve their communities sincerely, giving back in meaningful ways.

“They should rise above all forms of corruption,” he said.

The Afenifere national leader also advised political leaders to be less self-centred, to shun corruption and pursue wealth with moderation.

“My advice to political leaders is that they should be less self-centred, shun corruption and pursue wealth less passionately,” he added.

Fasoranti, who spoke on the challenges facing the country, urged leaders to be open-minded and receptive to other people’s ideas.

He also spoke on life lessons, which he said had taught him not to be overly trusting and to always be prepared for surprises.

“People can pretend to be who they are not until their true colours are revealed. It is important to keep some distance, as they might let you down,” he said.

Fasoranti, who said he will celebrate his 100th birthday on May 11, expressed happiness at leaving behind a legacy of selfless service.
