A member of a local hunters’ group has died following an accidental explosion during a joint patrol with troops in Gombi Local Government Area of Adamawa State.

A counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, made this disclosure in a post on X.

According to him, the incident occurred at about 10:15 a.m. on April 24 when troops of 232 Battalion (Tactical), alongside the hunters’ group, conducted a fighting patrol around Member Farm and Dogon Kuka areas.

The security expert further revealed that the patrol team was returning to Garkida-Gombi axis when the incident happened.

“One of the hunters reportedly stepped on a primed Rocket-Propelled Grenade, RPG, tube inside the gun truck, triggering a partial explosion,” he said.

Makama further stated that the hunter sustained a severe fracture to his left leg and was immediately evacuated to a medical facility, adding that he later succumbed to the injuries.
