The Nigeria Police Force has said it will pursue reforms to address pension and welfare concerns affecting retired officers.
The development was disclosed in a statement shared on April 14 2026, on the official page of the Force.
According to the statement, the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu met with a delegation of retired officers to discuss issues related to pensions and gratuities.
He described the challenges surrounding pension payments as pressing, noting that efforts are ongoing to find lasting solutions.
The police chief also outlined steps to ensure that concerns raised by retirees are forwarded to the appropriate authorities, including direct engagement with the Federal Government.
“The Inspector General of Police outlined two distinct avenues to ensure retirees’ grievances reach the highest levels of government,” the statement read.
He further assured that retirees would be allowed to express their grievances peacefully, with adequate security provided where necessary.
The statement added that the Force is also considering measures to improve opportunities for children of retired officers during future recruitment exercises.
Disu, however, stressed the importance of ensuring the welfare and dignity of retired personnel, noting that the Force remains committed to supporting its members even after service.
