Iran-US-Israel War LIVE News Updates: US seizes Iranian cargo ship Touska near Gulf of Oman, Trump cites blockade breach, Iran calls it armed piracy and vows response. Meanwhile, Israel-Lebanon ceasefire holds.
US President Donald Trump said American forces had taken custody of an Iranian-flagged cargo ship named ‘Touska’ after it allegedly attempted to breach a US naval blockade in the Gulf of Oman.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump said the vessel ignored warnings issued by the US Navy destroyer USS Spruance.
The US military fired on the vessel as it headed towards Iran’s Bandar Abbas port while Washington enforced a blockade on Iranian shipping, as per Reuters.
Iran sharply criticised the operation, describing it as an act of “armed piracy”. A spokesperson for Iran’s Khatam Al-Anbiya central command headquarters said the country’s armed forces would respond.
Iran’s First Vice President Mohammadreza Aref also warned that continued restrictions on Iran’s oil exports could have broader consequences for global energy markets. “One cannot restrict Iran’s oil exports while expecting free security for others. The choice is clear, either a free oil market for all, or the risk of high costs for everyone,” Aref said on social media, as per Reuters.
The latest incident has cast doubt over ongoing diplomatic efforts. Tehran may skip a second round of negotiations expected before the current ceasefire expires, citing the continuing blockade and Washington’s demands, as per Reuters.
Meanwhile, a 10-day ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon remains in place, with thousands of residents returning to inspect damaged homes in southern Lebanon.
