Bournemouth manager Andoni Iraola has backed the club’s decision to appoint Marco Rose as his successor, insisting the Cherries will be left “in very good hands”.
NOP NIGERIA reports that the former Borussia Dortmund coach will take charge at the end of the season when Iraola’s contract expires. Rose, 49, has been out of work since his dismissal by RB Leipzig in March 2025 and will be managing in England for the first time.
Rose built a strong reputation in Europe after winning two Austrian Bundesliga titles and the Austrian Cup with Red Bull Salzburg before lifting the German Cup and German Super Cup with Leipzig. He was also considered by Tottenham Hotspur following the sacking of Thomas Frank in February.
Iraola spoke warmly about the incoming boss. He said: “I think the club will be in very good hands. He’s a great manager.
“I praised him a few years ago, I always liked his teams and I hope he continues that.
“He’s a good manager with a lot of European experience. He looks very excited. I don’t know him personally but I always like his teams.
“They should be happy because he’s someone who can definitely improve the team. I’m sure the players are happy they know what’s happening.”
The Spaniard could yet bow out on a historic high. Bournemouth sit eighth in the Premier League after a 13-match unbeaten run and face Leeds United on Wednesday.
European qualification would mark the first time the club has reached continental competition before Iraola departs. His next destination remains unclear.
“We are in a good place in the standings but it’s going to be so difficult for us,” he said.
“We are competing against not one or two but a lot of teams.”
