The faction of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by David Mark has expelled Nafiu Bala, the party’s factional chairman, over alleged anti-party activities.
The party also announced the expulsion of several members, including Leke Abejide, a member of the House of Representatives, as well as Kingsley Temitope, Obinna Norman, Kennedy Odiong, and Stella Chukwuma.
The decision followed a motion moved by Binos Yaroe, senator representing Adamawa South, during the party’s national convention in Abuja on Tuesday. The motion was subsequently adopted by delegates through a voice vote.
Addressing delegates, the party’s organising secretary, Chinedu Idigo, accused the affected members of undermining the party by fuelling internal divisions.
“They have sown seeds of discord within the party and sought to create factions, doubts, and confusion across the polity, the public, and regulatory authorities, thereby causing instability within the party,” he said.
“They were given time to retrace their actions but failed to do so.”
The development comes amid a protracted leadership crisis within the party. Since July 2025, when an opposition coalition assumed control of the ADC’s leadership, the party has been embroiled in disputes, with Bala insisting that the Mark-led leadership was unlawfully constituted.
On April 1, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) withdrew recognition of the Mark-led faction following an interim ruling by the Court of Appeal.
The Supreme Court of Nigeria has fixed April 22 to hear an appeal filed by Mark challenging a suit instituted by Bala over the party’s leadership.
