The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has decried the sale of adulterated petroleum products by filling stations in the FCT.

The FCT Commandant, Dr Olusola Odumosu, condemned the practice in a statement issued on Wednesday in Abuja.

The statement, signed by spokesperson of NSCDC, Monica Ojobi, said the commandant spoke during a visit by Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) members.

Odumosu warned against fuel adulteration, describing the practice as dangerous and harmful to unsuspecting members of the public.

He also condemned pump tampering, saying some marketers deliberately dispense less fuel than customers pay for.

“Your members must stop hoarding petroleum products and selling to roadside marketers, to prevent disasters linked to storing fuel in homes.

“Such actions are criminal in nature and punishable under the law,” Odumosu said.

He assured marketers that NSCDC personnel would sustain round-the-clock surveillance to protect lives and critical national assets across the FCT.

“The command is ready to work with you, as long as the interest of the masses remains your priority,” he said.

PETROAN FCT Chairman, Mr Nicholas Kanwanya, said the association remained committed to meeting daily energy demands.

Kanwanya said the visit was aimed at strengthening communication and cooperation between both organisations.

“It is also meant to improve intelligence sharing, conflict resolution, collaborative measures, and enforcement support,” he said.

He pledged the association’s support for the command and promised continued cooperation with security agencies in the downstream sector.

Kanwanya also commended the NSCDC for its commitment to internal security in the FCT.

“The corps’ vigilance in the FCT remains the foundation upon which the city’s economic activities thrive,” he said. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
