The Kano State Police Command has arrested three suspected members of a tricycle theft syndicate and recovered eight stolen tricycles in the state.

The command disclosed that the breakthrough followed an intelligence-led operation carried out on March 26, 2026, by officers attached to the Kwakwachi Police Division along Airport Road in Kano.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the operatives intercepted one Abubakar Sidi, a resident of Kunkumi Village in Kaduna State, while riding a tricycle.

The suspect reportedly failed to give a satisfactory account of ownership, prompting his transfer to the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on the directive of the Commissioner of Police for further investigation.

“Discreet investigation revealed that the suspect had deceived the owner of the tricycle at Emir Palace Road and conspired with other members of his syndicate to rob the vehicle,” the statement said.

Further investigation led to the arrest of two accomplices, identified as Abba Babura and Babangida Haruna.

Police said seven additional tricycles allegedly stolen by the syndicate and sold in Babura area of Jigawa State were recovered.

The Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, commended the officers involved in the operation and reiterated the command’s commitment to tackling criminal activities across the state.

The police also urged tricycle operators to remain vigilant, warning against accepting drinks or gifts from strangers.

It called on victims of similar theft incidents to visit the Police Public Relations Office at Bompai Headquarters or contact investigators for possible identification and recovery of their vehicles.
