Kebbi State Governor, Nasir Idris, has appointed a former Comptroller-General of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Alhaji Jafar Jega, as Amirul Hajj for the 2026 pilgrimage.
The appointment was announced in a statement issued by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Yakubu Bala Tafida, and made available to journalists on Friday, April 17, 2026.
According to the statement, Jega will head a 19-member government delegation responsible for overseeing and coordinating all Hajj operations for the state.
NOP NIGERIA understands that the committee is tasked with ensuring the smooth planning and execution of the pilgrimage.
The delegation is expected to focus on the welfare of pilgrims and maintain coordination with relevant agencies throughout the exercise.
“The delegation is to ensure effective coordination of all Hajj-related activities and maintain close liaison with relevant agencies to guarantee the welfare of Kebbi State pilgrims throughout the exercise,” the statement read.
The committee will also ensure compliance with agreements involving the State Pilgrims Welfare Agency, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria, and airline operators.
In addition, it is mandated to supervise the overall conduct of the pilgrimage and advise the government on areas for improvement in future exercises.
Members of the delegation include former Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Ibn Na’Allah; Commissioner of Police Umar Muhammad Hadejia; Abubakar Muhammad Kana; Babale Umar Yauri; Hon. Garba Muhammad Bena; Hon. Sulaiman Fana; and Aliyu Bello Muh’ud, the Magajin Rafin Gwandu.
Others are Dr Haliru Bala Jikan-Daudu; Zayyanu Bello Haruna Rasheed; Hon. Halima Muhammad Bande; Hon. Halima Hassan Kamba; Mustapha Usman Ka’oje; Muhammad Arzika Bawa, the Sarkin Kabin Jega; Umar Ahmed Saraki; Kadi Sadiq Usman Mukhtar; Justice Nuraddeen Muhammad; and Sahabi Boyi Gemu, who will serve as secretary.
Governor Idris noted that the composition of the committee reflects his administration’s commitment to a seamless and well-coordinated Hajj exercise.
He added that the inclusion of experienced officials, religious leaders and key stakeholders is aimed at ensuring efficiency and improved service delivery for pilgrims.
