According to a report by The Sun on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, Bashir El-Rufai, son of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai, has declared his support for a potential presidential ticket involving Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso ahead of the 2027 general elections.

He made this known through a post shared on his X account on Wednesday, where he outlined his preference for a political alliance that could address the country’s current challenges.

Although he did not directly mention the names of the individuals involved, Bashir referred to an “O.K” presidential ticket, which he suggested could provide a pathway for resolving the nation’s ongoing difficulties.

The reference has been widely interpreted to mean a collaboration between Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso, with the initials “O” and “K” believed to represent both political figures respectively.

Both Obi and Kwankwaso are associated with the African Democratic Congress, aligning them within the same political platform as Bashir’s father, Nasir El-Rufai, who is also a member of the party.

During the 2023 presidential election, Obi contested under the Labour Party and secured the third position, while Kwankwaso, who ran on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, finished in fourth place.

Supporters of both politicians, particularly on social media, have been advocating for a joint ticket under the ADC, with ongoing discussions about which of the two would take the presidential or vice-presidential position, as Bashir suggested Obi should lead the ticket to allow the South complete an eight-year presidency before power rotates to the North in 2031.

He said, “Just in case there’s any ambiguity let me state clearly I personally am for an O.K Presidential ticket.

“That alliance, forged with back door dealings & clear cut responsibilities will go a long way in salvaging the country from this current quagmire.”
