Donald Trump has issued another furious statement as he claims Iran is “choking like a stuffed pig”. The US President recently dismissed Iran’s proposal to reopen the Strait of Hormuz, arguing that Tehran’s offer avoided the core issue of its nuclear programme.
Several reports indicate that Iran suggested reopening the vital waterway in exchange for delaying nuclear negotiations, but US officials said this would remove a key element of American leverage in the conflict. Mr Trump insisted that nuclear restrictions must be part of any agreement from the outset, and advisers noted he was dissatisfied with a deal that would ease maritime tensions without addressing Iran’s enriched uranium stockpile.
He told Axios: “The blockade is somewhat more effective than the bombing. They are choking like a stuffed pig. And it is going to be worse for them. They can’t have a nuclear weapon.”
He claimed that Iran wants to reach a deal in order to lift the blockade. He said: “They want to settle. They don’t want me to keep the blockade. I don’t want to [lift the blockade], because I don’t want them to have a nuclear weapon.”
He added that Iran’s oil storage and pipelines “are getting close to exploding” because Iran can’t export oil due to the blockade
In an fiery Truth Social tirade against the regime earlier today, Trump wrote: “Iran can’t get their act together. They don’t know how to sign a nonnuclear deal. They better get smart soon!”
Oil prices have kept climbing as Iran maintains tight control over the crucial Strait of Hormuz, while the United States continues to enforce its own restrictions on access to nearby Iranian ports.
According to a report from The Wall Street Journal, citing US officials, President Trump has chosen to persist with measures that block shipping traffic entering or leaving Iran’s ports, adding further pressure to the region’s already strained trade routes.
Previously, President Trump said on Truth Social post: “Iran has just informed us they are ‘in a state of collapse’.
“They want to open the Hormuz Strait as soon as possible as they try to figure out their leadership situation (which I believe they will be able to do!).”
