The Nigerian Navy has confirmed the arrest of personnel involved in a public altercation with fellow military officers in Bayelsa state during the visit of President Bola Tinubu to commission projects on Friday.
Tinubu had inaugurated 60-megawatt gas turbine plants at Elebele in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa.
The President also inaugurated other projects implemented by the Governor Douye Diri-led administration such as 630 metre Angiama-Oporoma Bridge, Sagbama/Ekeremor Road, and 2.9km Dual-Carriageway in Yenagoa.
The clash occurred as Tinubu was leaving the venue of an event.
Reacting to the incident in a post via his X handle on Saturday, the Director of Naval Information, Navy Captain Abi Folorunso, confirmed that those involved have been taken into custody and are undergoing disciplinary procedures.
“The affected personnel are in custody and already undergoing appropriate administrative and disciplinary procedures in accordance with extant military regulations,” he wrote.
The incident, which has since gone viral, was captured in a video showing a heated confrontation between personnel of the Nigerian Army and navy personnel.
