
The Nigerian Navy and Chevron Nigeria Limited have reaffirmed their commitment to deepening collaboration aimed at ensuring a safer maritime environment critical to Nigeria’s economic growth and national development.
The initiative taken Friday was underscored during a courtesy visit by the Flag Officer Commanding (FOC), Western Naval Command, Rear Admiral AA Mustapha, to Chevron Nigeria Limited.
The visit focused on strengthening maritime security cooperations and enhancing civil-military relations.
Rear Admiral Mustapha highlighted the pivotal role of the Western Naval Command in safeguarding the nation’s maritime domain, particularly around Lagos, stressing the importance of sustained partnerships with key stakeholders such as Chevron in tackling emerging security threats.
The FOC also emphasised the significance of advanced Maritime Domain Awareness systems, including Falcon Eye and RMAC, in improving surveillance capabilities and enabling swift response to maritime incidents.
He further advocated for strategic collaborations to drive technological advancement, promote capacity building, and facilitate knowledge transfer to boost indigenous capabilities.
As part of the visit, the Commanding Officer of NNS Centenary delivered a lecture titled “Nigerian Navy and Chevron Nigeria Limited Operations: An Appraisal,” providing insights into existing cooperation and identifying areas for improvement. The session featured active participation from attendees both physically and virtually.
In his remarks, the Chairman and Managing Director of Chevron Nigeria, Jim Swartz, commended the Nigerian Navy for its unwavering dedication to maritime security.
He noted that the improved security landscape had had a positive impact on Chevron’s operations and reaffirmed the company’s commitment to supporting “initiatives that enhance safety, technological development, and sustainable partnerships.”
