
The Commander of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Edo state, Mitchell Ofoyeju, Tuesday described the commitment of the command to eradicating drug-related crimes and promoting a drug-free society as unwavering.
He said to this end, the command has arrested 104 suspected drug traffickers and seized narcotics estimated at N1.8 billion in the first quarter of the year.
Ofoyeju stated this Tuesday in Benin City while presenting the command’s operational scorecard as he attributed the achievements to intelligence-driven operations and effective coordination among personnel.
He said the 104 suspects comprised 71 males and 33 females apprehended during various raid operations across the state.
”A total of 18,380 kilograms of illicit drugs were recovered within the period, including 5,825kg seized and 12,556kg of cannabis destroyed on 10 farms measuring 5.02260 hectares,” he stated.
He gave a breakdown of the seizures as 18,293kg of cannabis, 6.01kg of psychotropic substances, 0.1888kg of methamphetamine, 0.023kg of cocaine, 0.0151kg of heroin, as well as 81.4 litres of codeine syrup.
The Ofoyeju revealed that the command secured 36 convictions during the period, comprising 32 males and four females.
