Senior Israeli defense officials are pushing to resume military operations against Iran, Army Radio reported.
According to the report, defense officials assert that additional strikes could increase pressure on Tehran to be more flexible in ongoing negotiations with the US.
The officials stressed that the previous operation left several major targets untouched, including Iranian energy and oil facilities, and that Israel now has an opportunity to carry out those attacks.
One senior official said, “There’s potential that it could make the Iranians more flexible, but that can’t be guaranteed. Renewing the war against them would weaken them further and push them into a corner, but it wouldn’t necessarily make them surrender or agree to every demand in the negotiations.”
The officials also pointed to signs of increasing economic pressure within Iran, noting that a protest was held at an Iranian bazaar two days ago.
“The blockade is putting enormous pressure on Tehran,” they said. “Every day that passes increases the pressure, but we can’t wait forever. If the decision is made to renew the operation, it needs to happen soon.”
