A new faction has emerged within the African Democratic Congress (ADC), declaring itself the authentic leadership of the party and distancing itself from both the Senator David Mark-led opposition coalition and Nafiu Bala’s group.

The faction, led by Don Norman Obinna, claims to be the duly elected National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ADC.

At a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday, the group stated that the tenure of former National Chairman Ralph Nwosu, who handed over the party to the David Mark coalition, officially ended in August 2022.

It accused Nwosu of illegally clinging to power, which led to multiple court cases. The faction described Nwosu’s handover as “an illegal act.”

In a series of resolutions, the Obinna-led group:

Fully dissociated itself from Senator David Mark and the opposition coalition.

Rejected Nafiu Bala, insisting he never served as National Vice Chairman.

Declared that the David Mark-led group “are not members of ADC and cannot speak for the party.”

Affirmed that the party’s former Presidential Candidate, Dumebi Kachikwu, remains a legitimate member of the ADC.

Appointed new officials to manage the party’s affairs until a proper national convention is held.
