“Working together is success,” said Henry Ford. That timeless statement reflects the political partnership between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima, whose administration has projected a united front in governance, policy direction, and national leadership.
Since assuming office, both leaders have demonstrated uncommon synergy, maturity, and strategic coordination in steering Nigeria through difficult economic and political transition.
The teamwork of President Tinubu and his able assistant Shettima has strengthened confidence in governance and sustained the ideals of the administration’s Renewed Hope agenda.
As a former president of South Africa and freedom fighter Nelson Mandela once observed, “A good head and a good heart are always a formidable combination.” This aptly describes the relationship between President Tinubu and Vice President Shettima; one built on trust, competence, loyalty, and shared vision.
Vice President Shettima’s loyal and steadfast support for President Tinubu have contributed immensely to the stability of the present administration. In politics, loyalty remains a rare virtue, and Shettima has shown that commitment to leadership and national interest can coexist with humility and discipline.
Beyond loyalty, Shettima’s sterling record as a former Governor of Borno state remains a testament to visionary leadership under pressure. At a time when insecurity ravaged the North-east geo-political zone of the country, Shettima as governor, introduced bold reforms that restored hope to many ravaged communities and displaced people.
Among his landmark achievements were the establishment of over 40 mega gchools, providing access to education for tens of thousands of children displaced by insurgency and humanitarian crises. He also founded Borno State University, Maiduguri, expanding higher education opportunities in the state.
Recognising that rebuilding after conflict required institutional structure, Shettima pioneered the establishment of the Ministry of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation and Resettlement (RRR), which coordinated the rebuilding of destroyed towns and communities.
He also strengthened humanitarian coordination by creating agencies that aligned the intervention of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) with long-term state development goals.
With his background in agricultural economics, Shettima, as the governor of Borno state, promoted agriculture reforms and economic initiatives aimed at job creation, youth empowerment, and reducing vulnerability to extremism and insurgency.
Shettima’s advocacy for industrial development in Maiduguri, the Borno state capital, reflected a forward-looking vision for accelerated economic recovery.
At the national level, Vice President Kashim Shettima has continued to distinguish himself. Whether representing Nigeria at the United Nations General Assembly or responding to emergencies such as the Alau Dam flooding, he has displayed eloquence, competence, and deep understanding of governance.
He was also one of the key political figures whose support, strategic engagement, and mobilisation helped secure the presidential ticket and eventual victory of President Tinubu in the keenly contested 2023 presidential election.
A popular saying goes, “You do not change a winning team.” Considering the unity, achievements, and strategic balance this partnership has provided, many Nigerians believe the Tinubu/Shettima joint ticket remains a strong formula for continuity, stability, and national progress in 2027.
Where loyalty meets competence, and experience meets vision, success often follows.
