The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has warned that the Independent National Electoral Commission could face fresh legal battles over ongoing disputes surrounding court orders, raising concerns about possible disruptions to the electoral timetable.

Speaking on Tuesday, April 21, 2026, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ladipo Johnson, faulted INEC’s handling of the situation, stressing that improper interpretation of court rulings could trigger further litigation.

Johnson said, “INEC must be cautious in handling court orders to avoid plunging the electoral process into unnecessary legal battles that could disrupt the timetable.”

The warning comes amid lingering legal disputes within the NNPP, where rival factions have previously approached the courts over leadership control and party structure.

The crisis has led to conflicting court positions and raised questions about which faction should be officially recognised by the electoral commission.

Johnson added that unresolved legal disputes within political parties, if not carefully managed, could create uncertainty ahead of upcoming electoral activities and weaken public confidence in the system.
