North Korea fired an unidentified ballistic missile eastward, according to the Yonhap news agency, which cited the South Korean military. In its report, Yonhap did not go into greater detail about the launch’s characteristics. On April 8, North Korea fired several short-range ballistic missiles into the ocean off its eastern coast.

As a deterrent to US aggression, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un has pushed for upgrades to the country’s arsenal, including missiles and other weapons.

The incident is the North’s seventh ballistic missile launch of the year and its fourth in April, according to a Reuters report.

According to media sources, the presidential office of South Korea said that it had convened an emergency security conference.

Resolutions of the UN Security Council against the North’s missile programme are violated by such tests. Pyongyang claims that the U.N. prohibition violates its sovereign right to self-defence and rejects it.

According to a statement from South Korea’s military, the missiles were shot at approximately 6:10 a.m. close to the city of Sinpo on North Korea’s east coast.

The ballistic missiles are thought to have fallen close to the Korean Peninsula’s east coast, according to a social media statement from Japan’s government. No intrusion into Japan’s exclusive economic zone has been verified.
