The National Sports Commission (NSC) has unveiled a high-profile list of Team Nigeria Ambassadors ahead of the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Leading the roll call are seasoned sports administrators including Mallam Saleh Ahmadu, Dr Amos Adamu, Chief Patrick Ekeji, Alhassan Yakmut and Gbenga Elegbeleye. All previously served as Director-General of the NSC and are expected to supervise Nigeria’s preparations and participation in the tournament.

The ambassadorial team also features decorated athletes and sports stakeholders such as Olympic medallist Daniel Igali, wrestling icon Blessing Oborodudu, Tajudeen Ogunbade, Khadijat Sulaiman and Victor Iroele.

Corporate and institutional backing is represented by Premium Trust Bank and the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service, Wale Adeniyi.

The commission said the appointments reflect a deliberate blend of administrative experience, athlete insight and corporate partnership as Nigeria intensifies preparations for the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Glasgow will host the event from 23 July to 2 August 2026, with competitions staged across the city of Glasgow in Scotland. About 74 Commonwealth nations and territories are expected to participate.

Organisers have confirmed a streamlined programme featuring 10 sports, including athletics, swimming, boxing, cycling and gymnastics. Para-sports will be fully integrated into the programmes.
