The Managing Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), Dr Samuel Ogbuku, has briefed President Bola Tinubu on the completion of key legacy projects across the Niger Delta, signalling readiness for their unveiling.

The briefing followed a meeting at the State House in Abuja, where Ogbuku updated the President on the progress, scope and impact of the Commission’s interventions, while also extending a formal invitation to Tinubu to inaugurate the completed projects.

The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Wednesday, 22 April, 2026 in Port Harcourt by the NDDC Director of Corporate Affairs, Seledi Thompson-Wakama.

Ogbuku attributed the agency’s progress to what he described as strong presidential backing, noting that the directive to complete abandoned projects had been central to its recent achievements.

“President Tinubu has charged us to complete all legacy projects for the benefit of the people of the Niger Delta region,” he said.

Accordingly, he explained that the meeting provided an opportunity to present milestones recorded in delivering the Commission’s mandate, particularly in executing strategic infrastructure projects across the region.

Among the completed projects, he listed the 650-bed hostel complex at the Niger Delta University (NDU), Amassoma, Bayelsa State, and an electrification project in Oron, Akwa Ibom State.

Highlighting the significance of the NDU hostel, Ogbuku said the facility would address longstanding accommodation challenges faced by students.

“The new hostel will not only provide comfort and security but will also reduce stress, enhance concentration, and boost academic productivity among students who will now reside within the university premises,” he said.

Furthermore, he disclosed that several other landmark projects were at advanced stages and nearing completion.

These include the Kaa–Ataba Road and Bridge in Rivers State, the Niger Delta Regional Specialist Hospital in Rivers State, and road projects in Ikot Ekpene.

In addition, Ogbuku said he briefed the President on ongoing collaboration with the Delta State Government and Chevron Nigeria Limited on the 70.75-kilometre

Omadino–Okerenkoko–Escravos Road and bridges in Warri North Local Government Area.

“I also briefed Mr President on the progress we have made in conjunction with the Delta State Government and Chevron Nigeria Limited,” he said.

He reiterated the Commission’s commitment to aligning its operations with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Tinubu administration, adding that efforts were being intensified to deliver measurable and sustainable development outcomes across the region.

Established in 2000 under the administration of former President Olusegun Obasanjo, the NDDC is mandated to fast-track development in the oil-rich Niger Delta, covering nine states: Rivers, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Abia and Ondo.
