The consensus governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has intensified reconciliation moves within the party with a strategic engagement with Senator Iyabo Obasanjo, pledging to incorporate her policy direction into his campaign blueprint.

Yayi, who was recently adopted as the APC consensus flag bearer for the 2027 governorship election, met the former senator at the Olusegun Osoba Hilltop residence in Abeokuta as part of ongoing consultations aimed at unifying aggrieved aspirants and consolidating support ahead of the poll.

The meeting, which was described as cordial and politically significant, is part of efforts by the APC candidate to douse internal tensions and foster cohesion among stakeholders who participated in the governorship race before his adoption.

Addressing Iyabo Obasanjo, Yayi expressed appreciation for her early goodwill following his emergence as consensus candidate, noting that her support and political experience remain critical to his broader agenda for the state.

He assured that his administration, if elected, would not operate in isolation of existing ideas and contributions from key political actors within the party, especially those who had shown interest in the governorship contest.

“I want to assure you that I am here as a son of the family. We will work together,” Yayi said.

“Immediately after my emergence, you congratulated me and I was truly excited. I am ready to align with your vision. Your manifesto and political direction will be part of our broader agenda.

“At any given opportunity, I will be available. One, two or three persons from your team will also be integrated into my campaign structure. Nobody will be left behind,” he added.

The APC candidate stressed that unity within the party remained central to his political strategy, adding that inclusiveness would define his engagement with stakeholders across the state.

In her response, Iyabo Obasanjo reportedly welcomed the overture and engaged in discussions centred on governance priorities, political stability, and the need for inclusive leadership in Ogun State.

Party sources at the meeting said the interaction was part of wider consultations by the APC leadership and its candidate to consolidate support across different political blocs within the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Yayi’s engagement with Iyabo Obasanjo is coming amid increasing political realignments within the APC in Ogun State, as the party moves to strengthen internal cohesion following the adoption of a consensus arrangement.
