Governorship aspirant Iyabo Obasanjo has announced the suspension of her bid for the Ogun State governorship following the emergence of Senator Solomon Adeola as the All Progressives Congress (APC) consensus candidate for the 2027 election.
In a statement personally signed on Monday, Iyabo Obasanjo congratulated Adeola on his emergence and expressed appreciation to party leaders for the opportunity to participate in the selection process.
Adeola, who represents Ogun West in the Senate, was adopted as the party’s consensus candidate during a meeting held at the All Progressives Congress secretariat in Abeokuta.
Following the decision, Obasanjo said she had chosen to step back from the race.
“Based on these developments, I have decided to suspend my gubernatorial aspiration,” she said.
She also thanked her supporters across Ogun State for their loyalty and encouragement throughout her campaign, describing their support as steadfast and reassuring.
“To my supporters across Ogun State, I am deeply grateful for your calm, steadfast support and unwavering trust throughout this journey,” she added.
Adeola’s emergence has further consolidated his position within the APC’s consensus arrangement ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Ogun State.
