Nigerian star, Victor Osimhen has urged Galatasaray to stay focused and determined ahead of Sunday’s Intercontinental Derby against Fenerbahçe as the Turkish title race reaches a critical stage.

With four matches left in the Süper Lig season, the clash could effectively decide the championship. Galatasaray lead the table by four points over Fenerbahçe and sit seven clear of Trabzonspor.

NOP NIGERIA reports that Osimhen recently returned from a 35-day injury lay-off, making his comeback in the 2-0 Turkish Cup quarter-final defeat to Gençlerbirliği. After the match, the striker was seen consoling goalkeeper Günay Güvenç, who had been booed by sections of supporters.

The Nigeria international who joined the club first on loan (in the 2024-2025 season) and then permanently in the following campaign, has since taken on a prominent leadership role in the dressing room as preparations intensify for the derby.

According to Turkish sports daily Fanatik, Osimhen said: “A very important match awaits us. Like everyone else, I’m eagerly anticipating it. Now is not the time to be upset.

“We’re going into an important match for the championship, and we need to prepare ourselves well.”

Osimhen has been central to Galatasaray’s title push this season, registering 19 goals and seven assists in 30 appearances across all competitions.
