A factional leader of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Tanimu Turaki, has arrived at the Supreme Court for the hearing of a leadership dispute case seeking to overturn a Court of Appeal ruling that nullified a party exercise for breaching an existing court order.
According to earlier reports, the judgment in the PDP case, marked SC/CV/166/2026, as well as a separate matter involving the African Democratic Congress (ADC), with appeal number SC/CV/180/2026, had been scheduled for 2pm.
Meanwhile, a Federal High Court on Wednesday restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognising ADC congresses conducted under the leadership of David Mark, pending the resolution of internal party disputes.
INEC had earlier fixed May 10 as the deadline for political parties to submit their membership registers.
The commission also announced that the Presidential and National Assembly elections will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2027, while Governorship and State Assembly elections are scheduled for Saturday, February 6, 2027.
According to the timetable, party primaries and the resolution of related disputes will take place between April 23 and May 30, 2026.
Campaigns for the Presidential and National Assembly elections are expected to begin on August 19, 2026, while those for Governorship and State Assembly elections will commence on September 9, 2026.
