The Peoples Democratic Party, South West Zone, has disowned a press conference purportedly held in Ibadan on Monday, in which some persons claimed the zone had condemned former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose, declared support for Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, and pledged loyalty to the Tanimu Turaki-led National Working Committee NWC.

In a statement issued on Monday, Zonal Publicity Secretary, Akinloye Oyeniyi, described the event as the handiwork of organised impostors who hold no mandate and represent the party at no level whatsoever.

Oyeniyi stated that the zonal leadership was not even in Ibadan when the purported press conference was held.

“The Zonal Chairman, Engr. Deji Doherty, was away in Abuja attending the 108th meeting of the National Executive Committee of our great party and no zonal officials held any press conference. The claim of an Ibadan press conference is therefore a barefaced lie,” he said.

He noted that the illegitimacy of the group was self-evident, pointing out that the faction did not even have a Zonal Vice Chairman — a position he described as significant for any structure claiming to speak for the PDP South West. Those behind the gathering, he stressed, are not recognised by any organ of the party from ward to national level.

“These are the ones whose agenda was to destabilise the party but they failed. Looking at them, one could see that their group is now a psychiatric ward with no staff. Destabilising elements always end up as wanderers. Karma never forgets, and wickedness by default carries consequences too,” the statement read.

He added that “these ones slung toboggan, and now the stones are expectedly raining on them, and their current noise and theatrics will not substitute for acceptance by party members or the public.”

The PDP South West reaffirmed its loyalty to the Mohammed Abdulrahman-led National Working Committee NWC and to the party’s National Leader, Nyesom Wike, describing that loyalty as unalloyed.

The zone also advised the impostors to retrace their steps and re-enter the party through legitimate channels, warning that no volume of media stunts or paid propaganda could confer legitimacy on an illegitimate group.

Oyeniyi urged the public, party faithful and the media to disregard the Ibadan publication entirely, and confirmed that all official communications from the PDP South West Zone would continue to emanate exclusively through recognised party channels under the leadership of Engr. Deji Doherty.
