Prominent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) chieftain Chief Dan Ulasi has expressed strong optimism about former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi’s prospects within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) ahead of the 2027 presidential election, estimating a 60% chance that Obi could emerge as the party’s candidate.
Ulasi during an interview with Arise Tv described the potential alliance between Peter Obi and former Kano State Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as a strategic move to build national bridges and create a formidable political force.
“The Peter Obi–Kwankwaso alliance is part of the broader bridges we are building across the nation,” Ulasi stated. “Kwankwaso is not a name to dismiss in the North, nor is Peter Obi a name to dismiss in the South. This potential partnership is exciting and could become a powerful political force that ushers in a new era of development for Nigeria.”
The comments come amid ongoing realignments in the opposition space, with several prominent figures showing interest in the ADC as a platform to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. Kwankwaso’s recent move to the ADC has further fueled speculation about a possible Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, combining significant support bases in the South-East/South-South and North-West regions.
Ulasi, a veteran PDP figure known for his candid views on national politics, has previously highlighted Obi’s widespread appeal and credibility across the country. His assessment shows the growing momentum for opposition coalitions as political actors position themselves for the next general elections.
Observers note that while Obi remains a popular figure with a strong grassroots following, the final outcome of the ADC primaries will depend on internal party dynamics, delegate support, and broader negotiations among opposition leaders.
As the political landscape continues to evolve, Ulasi’s remarks add to the buzz surrounding Obi’s potential role and the viability of a unified opposition front aimed at addressing Nigeria’s pressing challenges of development, security, and governance.
