
At least 11 persons were killed while more than 50 houses burnt in a communal crises in Akywa and Udege Kasa community of Nasarawa local government area of Nasarawa state on Friday.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, made this known in a statement issued in Lafia, on Saturday.
This prompted the Commissioner of Police, CP Shetima Jauro Mohammed, to visit the affected communities of Akyawa and Udege Kasa.
He expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident.
He said the attack, which occurred on April 3, 2026, is believed to be a reprisal for the alleged killing of two individuals.
“The incident, which occurred in the early hours of the same day, involved hoodlums suspected to have carried out a reprisal attack over the alleged killing of two of their kinsmen. In the course of the attack, 11 persons were killed, while about 50 houses were burnt in Akyawa and two houses in Udege Kasa.
“In response, CP Shetima has ordered an intensive manhunt for the perpetrators, directing tactical teams and investigative units to ensure their prompt identification, arrest, and prosecution,” he said.
SP Nansel said the commissioner of police also directed the immediate reinforcement and sustained deployment of Police personnel, in synergy with the Military and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to provide adequate security and restore lasting peace in the area.
He further said a stakeholders’ meeting was held during the visit, where the CP urged residents to remain calm and cooperate with security agencies.
The Command reassured the public that normalcy has been restored to the affected communities, with proactive measures in place to prevent further violence.
