The Police Command in Niger says it has detained two suspects over alleged car theft and receiving stolen vehicles in Minna.

SP Wasiu Abiodun, the Command’s spokesperson, disclosed this in a statement on Monday in Minna.

Abiodun said that the suspects; Abdulfatai Abdulganiyu, 49, of Hotoro in Kano State, and Nura Umar, 28, of Low-cost area in Bida, Niger, were apprehended on April 15 at about 10 a.m. following credible intelligence.

He explained that Abdulganiyu was identified as a suspected member of a car theft syndicate and was traced to Bida from Kano with a stolen vehicle.

“Operatives of the State Intelligence Department (SID) trailed the suspect to a hotel along Mandela Road, Minna, where he was arrested with a Honda CR-V with registration number ABJ 529 DE,” he said.

According to him, the suspect confessed during interrogation that the vehicle was stolen in Kano and handed over to him by one Musa Abdulrazak.

“He stated that he received the vehicle at a flyover in Kano on April 13 and drove it to Bida on April 14 in search of a buyer,” Abiodun added.

The police spokesperson said preliminary investigations revealed that Abdulganiyu had contacted Umar for the purchase of the vehicle.

He said Umar was subsequently arrested in Bida and found in possession of a Toyota Corolla with registration number Kaduna MKA 461 MZ.

“Umar confessed that Abdulganiyu sold the Corolla vehicle to him on April 8 for N1.1 million, out of which he paid N700,000 with a promise to balance later.

“He also stated that Abdulganiyu informed him of plans to bring another vehicle for sale, but he declined due to lack of funds,” Abiodun said.

He said investigation was ongoing, adding that the command had intensified efforts to apprehend other members of the syndicate. (NAN)(www.nannews.ng)
