Joao Palhinha struck late to hand Tottenham Hotspur a vital Premier League victory, though survival nerves remain shaky at the foot of the Premier League table.
Spurs edged their way to a first top-flight win since December with a tense success at Molineux Stadium, yet relief was short-lived as rivals West Ham United snatched a dramatic win over Everton to keep the relegation fight wide open.
The north London side remain third from bottom and two points from safety with four matches left.
Manager Roberto De Zerbi saw his team labour through a flat first half despite dominating possession. Injury setbacks added to the anxiety as Dominic Solanke and Xavi Simons were forced off.
Simons had earlier blazed over after skipping past Matt Doherty, while Jose Sa produced a sharp save to deny Rodrigo Bentancur.
The breakthrough finally came seven minutes from time when Palhinha prodded home from close range. Spurs were then rescued in stoppage time by goalkeeper Antonin Kinsky, who produced a superb last-gasp stop from Joao Gomes.
At the London Stadium, Callum Wilson climbed off the bench to deliver a stoppage-time winner that could prove priceless in the survival race.
Tomas Soucek had put the hosts ahead before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall levelled with two minutes of normal time remaining, a goal that briefly threatened to drag the Hammers back into the drop zone.
Wilson had the final say, slotting home coolly after coming on in the 81st minute to keep his side two points clear of danger.
While at Anfield, Liverpool FC strengthened their hold on a Champions League place with a victory over Crystal Palace.
Alexander Isak opened the scoring with his first league goal at Anfield since a British record £125m switch from Newcastle United, his dipping strike looping over Dean Henderson.
Third-choice keeper Freddie Woodman made his league debut for the Reds with both Alisson Becker and Giorgi Mamardashvili sidelined. He responded with a vital diving stop from Jean-Philippe Mateta moments before Andy Robertson finished a sweeping counter led by Curtis Jones.
Palace threatened a comeback when Daniel Munoz struck from distance with Woodman down injured, and substitute Jorgen Strand Larsen rattled the post late on.
The contest was settled deep into stoppage time as Florian Wirtz fired home to seal Liverpool’s third straight league win.
