Gov. Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi on Monday received endorsement for his second term bid from stakeholders of Onicha Local Government Area (LGA).
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) recalls that Onicha is one of the LGAs Nwifuru lost during the 2023 general elections.
The stakeholders in a meeting in Abakaliki, noted that the endorsement of the governor was total as he has shown them unconditional love despite what happened in 2023.
The LG chairman, Chief Ikechukwu Ogbuoffia said the meeting was to review and appreciate the governor’s benevolence for the people and forge a unified political direction in his favour ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ogbuofia said that, having assessed the governor’s performances, the people collectively resolved to support his re-election, having delivered immeasurable dividends of democracy across its communities.
“The extensive road network, improved educational infrastructure, appointment of its people in critical positions, human empowerment among others, are clear indicators of Nwifuru’s purposeful leadership.
“The governor has brought endearing peace to the area and other parts of the state and the people cannot wish for a better leadership,” he said.
A former commissioner for Finance and Economic Planning in the state, Chief Timothy Odah, said the governor has strengthened security in the area while executing key rural projects such as electrification, road construction, water supply among others.
The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Governor on Women Mobilisation, Mrs Veronica Ikele, commended Nwifuru’s strides in agriculture, which she said has made the venture lucrative, especially to the youths.
The state commissioner for Inter-Party Affairs, Chief Philip Okorie, hailed the governor’s multi-sectoral approach to development, noting that it has set the state on the right path.
“The governor’s policies have significantly reduced incidences of political violence, kidnapping and communal conflicts, thereby strengthening social cohesion.
On his part the former commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Chief Donatus Njoku said the quest for the governor’s continuation in office was both justified and necessary.
“Onicha people would massively vote for the governor as this is the time to reward him for all the good things he has done for the people and entire state,” he said.
NAN reports that the governor’s re-election bid got backing from the 12 councillors of the LGA, the All Progressives Congress (APC) leadership, youth organisations among others.. (NAN) (www.nannews.ng)
