Responding to questions from journalists, the suspect said he attacked the female operatives to avoid being arrested, alleging that it was one of the police operatives who slapped him first.
Amobi who spoke in Yoruba language added, “I was driving my motorcycle behind a car when the car driver suddenly slammed on the brakes. To avoid hitting the three police officers standing at that spot, I had to swerve.
“After leaving the scene, I encountered another set of police officers ahead and stopped. While I was there, the first set of officers arrived and started beating me. I was pinned down and one of the police officers said I should be taken to the station.
“The fear of taking me to the station was what made me retaliate by fighting back against the officers. After the incident, I fled to Edo State, where I was eventually arrested. I want to urge the police to forgive me. I have realised my mistake.”
