The Nigerian Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has announced that its members will embark on a nationwide strike starting at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 7 April 2026.
The action comes in response to the federal government’s suspension of the Professional Allowance Table (PAT) and its failure to meet outstanding financial obligations to resident doctors.
In a statement issued by NARD Secretary-General Shuaibu Ibrahim on Saturday 4th of April, 2026, the association described the suspension of the PAT as “unfortunate” and a setback to efforts aimed at improving the welfare of resident doctors.
NARD called for the reversal of the PAT suspension, payment of promotion and salary arrears, the release of the 2026 Medical Residency Training Fund (MRTF), and settlement of professional allowance arrears accumulated over 19 months.
The association urged its members to remain united in pursuing these demands.
