Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has launched the Imole SSCE Scholarship Award, describing the initiative as part of efforts to promote academic excellence and strengthen the state’s position in national education rankings.
The governor unveiled the scholarship programme on Wednesday at the Osun State University during the maiden edition of the award ceremony attended by top government officials, education stakeholders and students.
Adeleke said the scholarship scheme was designed to reward outstanding students and encourage higher academic performance across the state. He noted that Osun currently ranks seventh nationally in NECO performance, adding that the state aims to move even higher among states with strong education records.
According to him, the award is not only for the students but also for teachers, parents and officials of the Ministry of Education who contributed to the achievements being celebrated.
At the event, the Commissioner for Education, Hon. Dipo Eluwole, presented hard copies of the 2024 and 2025 NECO reports showing Osun’s ranking in national examinations performance.
While speaking at the ceremony, Adeleke also used the occasion to address the political atmosphere ahead of the August 15 election in the state, urging residents to reject vote-buying and what he described as proceeds of crime from opposition figures.
“My people of Osun State, Osun is at an unusual time ahead of the August 15 election. Those who hijacked and diverted over N300 billion Osun local government funds are desperate,” the governor said.
“I charge Osun people to reject Greek gifts, to shun proceeds of crime and use their votes to sustain continuity. Osun voters and residents have a sacred duty to reject illegality, political corruption and unconstitutional pressure to subvert democracy.”
He added that voters should support continuity in governance and reject individuals who, according to him, acted against democratic principles and constitutional order.
“Our votes must further elongate delivery of democratic dividends as witnessed by our people from 2022 to date. Those who violated the law must be exposed through rejection at the poll,” Adeleke stated.
The lead consultant for Electronic Collection Group and main partner for the scholarship initiative, Engr Kayode Akinmade, commended the governor for approving and supporting the programme.
He described the scholarship award as “a giant leap in support of state education,” adding that the initiative would motivate students and promote excellence across schools in Osun.
“We appreciate His Excellency for supporting education, for promoting excellence and for recognising performing students at all levels of school education. This maiden edition is a huge success,” Akinmade said.
The event was attended by the Head of Service, Elder Ayanleye Aina, cabinet member Hon. Kamardeen Ajisafe and other senior officials of the Osun State Government.
