Sporting Lagos

Sporting Lagos has secured promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL), marking a major milestone for the Lagos-based club after two seasons in the second tier.

The club confirmed their return to the top flight with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Osun United on Thursday.

The decisive moment came in the 17th minute when Alex Leme found the back of the net for Sporting Lagos.

The forward converted a well-delivered cross from Aliyu Baba, handing Jeremy Butler’s side the crucial advantage in the encounter.

Despite pressure from their opponents, Sporting Lagos held on to secure all three points, with the final whistle confirming their promotion.

NOP NIGERIA reports that the victory sealed the club’s return to Nigeria’s elite league after spending two seasons in the Nigerian National League.

Sporting Lagos finished top of the Conference B table with 36 points from 18 matches, underlining their consistency throughout the campaign.

Akwa United ended the season in second place, despite recording a 2-1 victory over Solution FC in their final fixture.

Sporting Lagos became the third team to secure promotion to the NPFL this season, joining Doma United and Inter Lagos, who had earlier sealed their places.

With the club’s promotion, the number of Lagos-based teams in the NPFL will rise to three for the 2026/27 season.

Sporting Lagos will now compete alongside Inter Lagos and Ikorodu City in Nigeria’s top-flight league.

The promotion represents a significant achievement for Sporting Lagos and signals a growing presence of Lagos clubs in the country’s premier football competition.
