A governorship aspirant under the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in Taraba state, Sen. Emmanuel Bwacha, on Friday, has criticised poor governance in the state, lamenting the rising debt burden under the current administration.

Bwacha who was the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2023 in the state said this while declaring his intention to contest the 2027 election.

He expressed worries, alleging that the debt profile of the state has risen at an alarming rate from about 237billion naira in 2023 to over a trillion naira.

He noted that his decision to contest the 2027 governorship was as a result of abysmal performance of Governor Agbu Kefas, whom he claimed, had inflicted untold hardship on the people of the state.

“Our debt profile has risen alarmingly from about 237 billion naira in 2023 to over a trillion naira today. This raises serious concerns about prudence, accountability, and leadership capacity.

“Before October 2012, under the leadership of the late Governor Danbaba Danfulani Suntai, Taraba was on a clear path of progress. After the unfortunate plane crash, the state began to decline,” he lamented.

He said, “Poverty had worsened, infrastructure decayed, insecurity spread across Taraba communities, agriculture weakened and scandals became frequent”.

He promised that, “If given the opportunity to serve Tarabans, I will pursue a clear break from the present system and focus on meaningful, structural development that would improve the lives of our people and not cosmetic projects.”
