The Lagos State chapter of the Renewed Hope Labourers Network has endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for a second term and declared Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat as its preferred candidate for the 2027 governorship election.
In a statement signed by its state coordinator, John Folarin Odusote, the group said its decision followed consultations across the state.
It described Tinubu as a “tested reformer,” noting that his administration’s policies on economic restructuring, infrastructure and governance reforms require continuity.
“We believe that the ongoing reforms at the federal level need time, consistency and political will to yield their full benefits,” the statement read.
On Lagos politics, the group said Hamzat possesses the experience and competence required to lead the state.
It described him as a “quiet achiever” who has played a key role in sustaining Lagos’ development trajectory.
“Dr Obafemi Hamzat has demonstrated competence, loyalty and a deep understanding of the policy direction that has made Lagos a model for governance,” Odusote said.
The group stressed that continuity at both federal and state levels is essential for stability and long-term growth.
It added that Lagos, as a rapidly growing megacity, requires leadership that understands its complexities and can build on existing policies without disruption.
The network also acknowledged Abiodun Faleke, describing him as a key figure in its mobilisation efforts and a strong advocate for progressive governance.
The group said it would begin grassroots mobilisation across the state to rally support for both Tinubu and Hamzat ahead of the 2027 elections.
It expressed confidence that its endorsement reflects the aspirations of Nigerians seeking sustained development and policy continuity.
In a related development, the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has claimed that the state deputy governor, Obafemi Hamzat, will succeed his principal, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
NOP NIGERIA reports that Obasa expressed his support for Hamzat’s governorship bid during the deputy governor’s visit to his official residence in Ikeja.
Hamzat’s visit was part of his ongoing engagement and consultations with All Progressives Congress (APC) stakeholders and leaders ahead of the 2027 elections.
Obasa praised Hamzat’s commitment to infrastructure development and loyalty to the party.
The speaker further called for support for the deputy governor’s gubernatorial aspiration, adding that they will do everything to ensure victory at the polls.
He said, “I just returned from Abuja, and the conversation remains the same Dr Obafemi Hamzat is the next Governor of Lagos State.
“You have demonstrated unquestionable loyalty to our great party and even greater competence in serving Lagos.
“We love you, we support you, and we will do everything to ensure that we win the election.”
