Troops of the Operation HADIN KAI have recorded fresh operational successes in the North-East, including the recovery of arms and ammunition as well as the foiling of a planned terrorist attack involving an improvised explosive device.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force North East, Sani Uba.
According to the statement, the operations were conducted under Operation DESERT SANITY/VIGILANT SIEGE as troops intensified offensives against terrorist elements operating within the theatre.
The task force revealed that troops successfully thwarted a potential terrorist attack after discovering an improvised explosive device planted along a route behind the Internally Displaced Persons camp near a military location in Ladari.
The military said the explosive device was believed to have been strategically planted to target reinforcement teams and military vehicles moving within the area.
The statement noted that Explosive Ordnance Disposal specialists safely detonated the device in-situ without casualties.
“No casualties were recorded,” the statement added.
In another operation, troops conducting strangulation operations along the Ladari riverbanks uncovered an abandoned cache of arms and ammunition allegedly belonging to terrorists.
Recovered items included one Browning pistol, one locally fabricated pistol, 26 rounds of 9mm ammunition and seven cartridges.
The military also disclosed that troops of Sector 3, working alongside operatives of the Civilian Joint Task Force, arrested a suspected terrorist identified as Umar Zacharria, 15, in Gubio town.
Preliminary investigations, according to the military, linked the suspect to terrorist activities along the Kareto axis where motorists have reportedly come under repeated attacks.
“The suspect is currently in custody for further investigation,” the statement said.
The Joint Task Force said the operations reflected the sustained pressure being mounted against terrorist groups to deny them freedom of action across the North-East operational theatre.
“The Joint Task Force reassures the public of its unwavering commitment to sustaining ongoing offensives aimed at dismantling terrorist networks, neutralising threats, and restoring lasting peace, security and economic stability across the North East region,” the statement added.
The military high command commended the troops for what it described as their professionalism, resilience and dedication, urging them to sustain the operational momentum in the overall security interest of the region and the country.
