All Progressives Congress (APC) senatorial aspirant for Oyo Central, Dr Ademola Wasiu Alli (AWA), on has said some of the President Bola Tinubu administration’s policies were designed to address long-standing structural challenges in Nigeria.
Dr Alli stated this while featuring on the programme of the Oyo state Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, (NUJ,) held at the Press centre, Iyaganku, in Ibadan
He emphasised that while some of the administration’s policies may be unpopular, they were designed to address long-standing structural challenges.
According to the Oyo Central Senatorial hopeful, President Tinubu’s push for reforms included discussions around state policing, reflected a willingness to confront difficult national questions.
Defending President Tinubu policies, particularly the removal of fuel subsidy, Dr Alli described the move as necessary despite its immediate hardship, saying, “fuel subsidy is like a bomb that had to be defused. Previous administrations avoided it, but for Nigeria to move forward, tough decisions must be taken,”
Speaking on his senatorial ambition, Dr Alli emphasised the need for elected officials to prioritise the actual needs of constituents rather than impose projects on them, adding that
dissatisfaction among constituents often stemmed from a disconnect between what leaders deliver and what the people truly want.
“My purpose in politics is about my people and I rely on them, many citizens feel alienated from governance because they are not adequately carried along in decision-making”, he said.
Dr Alli added “ It is one thing giving people what you think they need and another thing giving them what they actually want”.
“No matter how successful a politician is, he remains a servant to those who elected him. Arrogance has no place in politics. If you are humble, your people will secure you.”
